I’m Craig. I’m a professional geek who builds websites for a living. However, in April my keyboard shall begin collecting dust and I will embark on cycling 4,500 miles across America. This 89 day journey/ordeal ends in July at which point I will be emigrating to New Zealand.
Why?
- I’m 24 and not getting any younger.
- I’ve wanted to move to New Zealand for a long time.
- I like adventure but don’t do enough of it.
- I am fascinated by people, we are bizarre creatures and I hope to meet a few.
- Why the hell not!
My blog for the next 5 months shall contain a lot of cycling paraphanalia and an accurate description of the torture I shall endure each step of the way. It would be my pleasure to be the brunt of your baracking and supportive abuse. I hope that you’ll come and check how I’m getting on at lunchtime, I’m sure your boss won’t mind.

Hi, best of luck in your coming adventure across the USA. we too live in Offerton, but my son lives in Chicago and is like you, a keen cyclist , covering many miles in Illinois, so I was interested. Look forward to reading of your journey,
Gillian
Thanks very much Gillian, I hope you enjoy reading the blog over the Summer – I hope to keep it updated as much as I can with video, photos and more blog posts!
I go through Chicago so I’ll keep an eye for your son!
Craig :)
Craig,
I just took a look at your route across the States and I have to say Palatine to Salt Lake City seems like quite a stretch to me – worst of all you won’t even be able to have a cold one when you finish that leg !
Take it easy and best of luck. The Outlaws will miss you !
Ian
You’re right, I personally think that’s going to be the hardest stretch. It’s going to be flat, monotonous and taxing on the brain! Hopefully reading people’s comments on the blog will keep me perked up! :)
Cheers!
Craig, it was so nice meeting you! Honored to be a new NYC friend, and looking forward to reading about your adventures on the road as I’ve wanted to cycle across the States myself for quite some time. Good luck on your journey and beyond!
Craig, Nice hang today. I’m happy to have ridden with you around NYC and help send you off on your journey with a mapped route down to middle New Jersey. I’ll be following your trip with much admiration. Best, Gil
Craig,
our paths crossed in Palatine when I stopped you to ask where you were heading…there was no particular reason for me to do so…and……I never have believed in coincidences….good luck on your journey…discovering America as well as yourself….prayers and best wishes are with you….till we meet again

Hi Craig. I’m checking up on you. It’s dcMike, here. Me and Elizabeth rode the Anacostia trail from greenbelt in the dark and thought of you. What’s fantastic about it is the fireflies this time of year. Anyway, Hey! Good seeing on your twitter that you’re still out there!
dcMike!!! I know exactly what you mean about the fireflies, I was riding till 3am this morning along Route 30, something caught my eye and since it wasn’t busy I turned off my head-torch. There were hundreds of fireflies, all buzzing around lighting the place up. Never seen one till this trip!
I hope you were foraging on the trail and came back with a plentiful supply of goodies!
Hey you! Great meeting you and riding for a day. Todd and I will continue to follow your trek across America. See ya on RAGBRAI some year. Until then we’ll stay in touch!
Great job Craig!!! We have been following you on occasion here and on twitter. Apparently, you have completed the entire journey and lived to tell about it. I am sure it has been wonderful learning experience and something that you will never forget. I hope you don’t wait too long before getting on a bicycle again for at least a short ride!!!

Having viewed your latest video, you seem to be holding up really well. You still look as good as you did when we met up with you just outside of Chicago! We enjoyed meeting you and wish you the very best in the future! Keep chasing your dreams…….you never know where they will take you! Thanks for the inspiration!
